THE LIFE
Eggleston grew up in the Mississippi Delta and photographed the everyday scenes of the American South. In 1976 the Museum of Modern Art showed his colour work in a landmark exhibition, with the book William Eggleston's Guide. Many critics then dismissed colour as commercial, and the show changed that. He used dye transfer printing to give his pictures their deep, saturated colour.
