THE LIFE

Dupain received his first camera in 1924 and apprenticed with Cecil Bostock in Sydney before opening his own studio in Bond Street in 1934. In 1937 he photographed his friend Harold Salvage lying on the sand at Culburra Beach, the picture known as Sunbaker, which later became an icon of Australia. During the Second World War he served with the Royal Australian Air Force. He later specialised in architecture, using a Linhof Technika 4x5 camera from 1959.
