THE LIFE

Hosoe was a Japanese photographer and a founder of the agency Vivo in 1959. His book Barakei, made with the writer Yukio Mishima, is a dramatic study of the author's body. Kamaitachi, made with the butoh dancer Tatsumi Hijikata, staged a folk legend in the countryside. He taught for many years and influenced younger Japanese photographers.
